"Great.. but sizing is off" 05/07/13
I typically wear small or medium shirt's depending on manufacturer, but after finding that both Smart Wool and 33 Degrees' wool base-layers fit about perfectly in size small, I decided to get the Oasis in a small too. The icebreaker fits much, much differently. The shirt's arms comfortably fit my frame but without even lifting up my arms, I could tell that the shirt was not long enough. If I lifted up my arms, my stomach would be exposed and the shirt wouldn't stay tucked in.Would be a great shirt for a short person with long-arms, but if you are tall and somewhat lanky like I am, Smartwool or 33 degrees is the way to go.
"Great layering piece!" 04/02/13
This icebreaker is a great baselayer in the winter. I have worn it under a Patagonia r1 and a shell and have been toasty in 30 F weather with mild activity. Probably the best part is that after 3 days of pretty heavy use, it still didn't smell bad (unlike my fleece...). I am 5'11" and 165 lbs, and the medium is a nice snug fit. After one wash, I felt that the fabric wasn't itchy at all.
"Great... If you're Gimli, son of Glóin" 11/14/12
I really do wish I could say that this is a great shirt, but it is weirdly short. I am 6 foot 1 or 2, but I hunch a lot, so for all practical applications I'm shorter by a bit. That being said, a medium does not make it to my waist. My wife occasionally wears this shirt and she, being 4 inches shorter, always mentions how short the shirt is. I would have exchanged it but the cost of shipping it back and shipping a larger version to Canada would have been more costly than simply buying another one.Maybe it's real comfortable and warm. Who knows. Maybe I'll try it on my lab and ask him since his limb to torso ratio may be more appropriate for this item.
"Great Base Layer" 07/25/12
I can't say enough about this crew. I have actually run a 5K in 20 degree weather with this shirt and a long sleeve T over it with no problems at all. It looks great, but is a tight fit so be sure to order a size up if you don't like the trendy skin tight look!
"This is an awesome base layer." 03/09/12
I bought this shirt almost two years ago for rowing in the late fall and early spring and it's held up to everything I've thrown at it. It never stinks even after a week or two of hard practices which is so much nicer than having to wash synthetic base layers after using them once. Super warm in low temps and even when it's wet, but not to warm to wear inside either. All in all, I've found my favorite base layer.
"This is an awesome base layer." 03/09/12
I've had this shirt for almost two years now and it's held up to everything I've thrown at it. It never smells which is great compared to synthetic base layers that stink after a single use. Super warm for cold temps and even when it gets wet, yet still comfortable to wear inside.
"Warm, breaths well and feels great on the skin." 12/19/11
I've been using this piece for running, biking, indoor training, as a casual underwear on colder days and i think i even went to sleep in it once. This is a great underwear top which is surprisingly durable. Its just enough warm and feels amazing on the skin.
"Awesome Base Layer" 12/07/11
Bought this as a base layer for the cold outdoor days in Michigan. Wore it the weekend I got it in a 30 degree 5K and it was perfect. I was warm, but never overheated. The tight fit was perfect to prevent any chaffing from cold weather running as well! Highly recommend it to all.
"Warm, Cool, but itchy..." 12/02/11
Its true what they say. This is my first Merino wool item, and it does cool me down when im hot, and warm me up when im cold. The quality of this product for something so thin and made of merino is amazing! The box it came in and the tags are first class.I am 5'11" 167lbs medium athletic build. Most of the shirt fits perfectly...the arms are slightly tight on my though. The only reason I didn't give this 5 star is because my skin is much more sensitive than others...and I get some minor itching from wearing this top, but I'm sure most people would be fine with it (hopefully it gets better after the first wash).
"Nice material, poor sizing" 11/23/11
I'm 5'8" 165. I have a SS Icebreaker T in a M, it fits well. I really wanted to like this product. The problem with this top is that the sleeves are really tight - even on the large. When buying, definitely consider sizing up. I think that the "Tech" series with a little lycra is probably a lot better, but I'm hoping to pick up some Patagonia on Black Friday that's cheaper anyway.I didn't find it to be too itchy, and that generally improves with washing.
