"Bomb proof gaiters that won't let you down" 01/09/13
These are heavy canvas that is highly durable and gives you the peace of mind that whatever mess you put your foot down into isn't going to ruin your day, no matter what. The velcro is STRONG, which can be annoying when you're first getting used to it, but if you take your time and align it carefully at the bottom, you'll never have to think about it again. These are very tall, but I still found the top closures to come short of the top of my calves with double plastic boots. I'm 6'3, though, so these would probably come up far enough for the average person, especially with normal hiking boots (somehow I think these are intended solely for heavy duty mountaineering boots, though).
"Best Gaiters, Don't get anything else" 01/04/13
Listen to the rest of the reviews, these are the best gaiters, just buy them already! They are extremely well built, like everything from Outdoor Research and perform flawlessly. I have been using them at work when outside in deep slow and couldn't be happier. Next week I will try them snowshoeing in the Adirondacks High Peaks for a longer test. The small metal hook on the bottom is not compatible with all boots/lace styles but you can use them without it.
"There are no better gaiters. Period." 12/30/12
These gaiters are the standard by which all others are judged. Mine are over 15 years old and have the crampon punctures of my youth, yet are still giving reliable and glorious service. Easy on/off, breath well, immortal bottom strap made of hypalon The best. These days I don't wear gaiters while climbing anymore, since modern pants tend to have grommets or snow-proof features built in. Yet I still wear these while hiking in spring snow in shorts, to keep the footsies dry. They rock.
"Rugged, long-lasting suckers!" 12/14/12
I like these more than the women's equivalent because I don't have wimpy calves, and it's nice to not have my calves squished, especially when I'm wearing a couple layers. These gaiters have lasted me many years of very hard use- mostly mountaineering and backcountry skiing. The bottom strap has withstood lots of ice and snow and is still going strong. I like how the sides are slightly rigid so they stay up nice even if you're moving around a lot.
"Bombproof Gaiters" 10/10/12
These have been my go-to gaiters for nearly 5 years now. I have beaten on them hard and they've taken everything I can throw at them - rocks, ice, crampons, etc. I wore out one underfoot strap after about 3 years, but had it repaired for a few bucks and it's not even noticeable. They're fairly comfortable, even over my rather large calves. I like the clip and strap at the top much more than any elastic top I've used in the past. Full disclosure, I bought these gaiters at a local shop, but I do participate in a program to test other Gore-Tex products. Didn't bias my review though, I still love these gaiters.
"these are hugs for your legs" 09/26/12
These gaiters are the top of the line. They are super rugged with the ability to withstand a ridiculous amount of abuse. Any time I have ever worn these I have never had any issues with things getting in my boots from mud to snow to water even. I have walked through water up to mid calf (for a short time of course) and these gaiters have kept me dry. The velcro closure on the front definitely feels super solid and I like the cam closure at the top of the calf. As a disclaimer, I am affiliated with Gore for product testing of Gore-tex products for the purpose of product review and recommendation. I do receive items from Gore for these purposes.

"The Best Piece of Gear I Own" 01/24/12
It doesn't matter if its shorts or pants, the gaiters always come. Completely waterproof, fit great. Really makes stream crossing great. No problems with buckle or strap as others have mentioned.
