Live in rural WA so this is not only useful on backpacking/hiking adventures but also mundane tasks after dark. Love that there are a couple different modes but not too many and not too difficult to switch back and forth.
This is a great combo for summer alpine climbers. I've had several units various brands die out on me due to various things like moisture, falls, cold etc. this unit really holds out well. no issues after the first trip.

Just got the Black Diamond Storm in a few days ago and have been testing it out the last few nights. Overall highly impressed. I have been using headlamps for years when I was in the military and for hiking but I have never had one near this nice. The high beam is amazing strong and the dimming feature crazy cool. The area light does its job great. I use this most the time when hiking at night. The lock mode takes all the worries about draining your light in your pack while hiking. The fit is very nice and it is not as heavy as some others on the market so you don't have to worry abut it slipping down your face. Best thing is that I received this for free after using my Moosejaw points.
Good:- Bright. I'm comfortable mountain biking at a moderate speed with only this.- Works well with rechargeable batteries- Lockout feature. Now I don't have to be paranoid when packing.- Dimmer is easy to use, and useful.Bad- Heavy, but not too awkard to run, bike or climb with. It's overkill when backpacking.- Red mode is only useful for up-close needs- Makes drivers angry when I try to make eye contact while bike commuting.
This is such a great headlamp, I have bought 2 of them just to have around. 100 Lumens kicks total butt and its waterproof construction makes it great for all conditions!

This thing is great. It is the first headlamp I've owned and it works beautifully. It's super bright and the waterproofing will certainly come in handy in the rain. The headband is nice and wide and it's very comfortable. It seems nicely made and the screw-in battery door is a nice touch. The dimming feature makes the light very customizable. Go right ahead, buy this thing right now.

This is the second storm I've bought. This one is for my wife because she loves mine so much. This headlamp is MUCH better than its price would suggest. First, it's water proof down to (I think) one meter. That's just enough to protect it from rain, splash, etc. The main spot lamp is super bright and has a focused beam that projects a long distance. It's bright enough that I use it for night time mountain biking. It also has a flood mode so you can fill a small area in front of you with less intense light, as well as a dim-red flood, for a very small amount of red illumination. Another useful feature is the ability to adjust the brightness of both white-light modes.
Overall, this is a good headlamp. I wish it had a strap over the top of the head as I found the weight of the lamp would make it sag and even fall into my eyes unless I cranked the strap super tight. The black matte color is great if you don't want to be seen, but as someone else mentioned, it's hard to find in a pack (I own the black). Changing the light color and flashing versus steady light can be a pain. Loved the adjustable light intensity and the red light is good for night.
I love this light. It's easy to use, has different setting and great dimming. I love the feature that it can be locked because it is not so great when you find out that batteries are dead when you want to use it. I got a great advise to not to buy it in black color because it's hard to find it in the backpack. With this color I never had a problem.
